Green Powdery Mold In Attic

There are various types of mold that appear with a green color but it is most commonly caused by stachybotrys chartarum which is also known as toxic black mold this name can be deceiving because of the reference to the color black but this organism can also grow in a green color as well.

Green mold is most often is aspergillus cladosporium or penicillium types of mold. We all use our attics to throw things we don t want to deal with or only use once a year. Penicillium often a bluish green color this mold is frequently found growing on wet carpets in wet insulation and on wet mattresses. Mix 1 cup of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water in a bucket and carry the solution to your attic.

It can be difficult or impossible to identify mold just by its appearance since the color of mold can vary depending on a number of factors including the type of material on which it is growing. Wood is a primary target for mold. Green mold in attic storage is a nightmare for any homeowner. However attic condensation is evidence of wet or very humid attic conditions.

Wooden floors ceiling beams and walls can host green mold colonies. Green mold also commonly grows alongside molds of varying types like black or pink mold. Most types of mold thrive and prefer warmer climates however these types of green mold can also easily grow in cool areas. This mold typically thrives in wet damp areas. When looking for attic mold trace both leak areas and areas of poor ventilation in the attic.
